About Me
Hello! I’m Rose
Romantic Fiction Novelist
J. Rose Black
Mother to two children and three dogs, Rose lives a technology-driven life in the Dallas suburbs. 3D printers whir away in her husband’s “printing room”, and she spends her day-job hours driving cyber security programs.
And when bedtime arrives, she dons her pjs and becomes! Coffee addicted Indie Romance Novelist! (no capes)
Growing up, Rose wanted to write before she could read (or, so Grammy says). Once she could read, she did read: everything. Classic literature (abridged for children, but who’s counting?), Mysteries, Women’s Fiction, more Mysteries, Sci-Fi Fantasy, Nancy Drew. As she got older, more romantic stories began to mix into her steady diet of mysteries, action/adventure, sci-fi/fantasy, classics (still love Dumas, Austen, Doyle, Christie), and thrillers. When she got grounded, Grammy took away her books!
[Pssst, that would be like taking away your iPad, now, kids. Yeah, ok, please stop screaming – it’s not a real scenario. Here, have the iPad, do you want some ice cream?]
Rose was eight when her teachers first submitted one of her stories to a kids magazine for publication. At eleven, she was selected to represent her school at the Young Author’s Extravaganza. She was known as “the writer” in the family, and it was just presumed that was what she would be.
And she was. A technical writer, a proposal writer (for tech companies), a published case study author (for software), a fanfiction writer, writer of for-subscription articles, and her employer published several white papers, blogs, and a long-form (30 page) book on cyber security programs.
Her fiction-writing pursuits have finaled in the unpublished division of national contests, such as:
Chicago North RWA’s Fire & Ice contest, and the TruTV’s “Next Great Crimewriter” contest (2nd and 5th place, respectively).
In 2023, having done all the other things Rose set out to do, she decided to pursue fiction publication.
And she has quite a few books she’s excited to share with you over the next few years!
